'Adam And Eve' Reading At Twain House

The hosts of "Better Connecticut" on WFSB-TV, Channel 3, Kara Sundlun and Scot Haney, will read the parts of Adam and Eve as imagined by Mark Twain in a Valentine's Day event at the Mark Twain House & Museum, 351 Farmington Ave., Hartford.

On Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., the popular TV personalities will present "The Diaries of Adam and Eve," a funny and tender exploration of love. A champagne-and-chocolate reception will follow.

The event benefits The Mark Twain House & Museum and Channel 3 Kids' Camp. Tickets are $45. Reservations: 860-280-3130.

Authors At R.J. Julia

Authors will speak and clubs will meet this week at R.J. Julia Booksellers, 768 Boston Post Road., Madison. All events are free and require registration: 203-245-3959 or http://www.rjjulia.com.

On Friday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., the free Voices in the Bookstore series will present readings by Madison area writers, who sign up in advance.

Also on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., the Bookshop Workshops group, led by founder Joel Glassman, will present "Eudaemonia," a play by Jerry Lieblich about a guy in Brooklyn who is offered a tempting personality change by a "small, scraggly demon."

On Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m., the Breathless Reads Tour presents five Young Adult authors who will discuss their new books. They are: Beth Revis, "Shades of Earth" (Razorbill, $18.99; Fiona Paul, "Venom" (Philomel, $17.99); Morgan Rhodes, "Falling Kingdoms" (Razorbill, $18.99); Elizabeth Richards, "Black City" (Putnam Juvenile,$17.99) and Jessica Spotswood, "Born Wicked" (Putnam Juvenile,$17.99)

On Monday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., the Debut Author Book Club will discuss "Lake People" by Abi Maxwell (Knopf, $24.95).

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., Susan Randy Meyers will talk about her novel, "The Comfort of Lies" (Atria, $25), about a woman who gives up a child conceived during an affair, the woman who becomes the baby's reluctant adoptive mother and the family of the father of the child.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., in a rescheduled talk, Colette Baron-Reid will discuss her book, "Weight Loss for People Who Feel Too Much: A 4-Step, 8-Week Plan to Finally Lose the Weight, Manage Emotional Eating, and Find Your Fabulous Self" (Harmony, $25), about empathy-overload, which can cause overeating to cope with stress caused by others.

Silk At Hickory Stick

The Hickory Stick Bookshop, 2 Green Hill Road, Washington Depot, will host a book signing on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. by Karen Silk. "Somewhere A Bird" (Antrim, $15) is her first poetry collection. Silk has been a psychotherapist, teacher and business woman and lives on a farm in Litchfield County.

Gillman In Chester

Jonathan Gillman will launch his poetry collection, "My Father, Humming" (Antrim, $18) on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. at C & G Posters and Prints, 3 North Main St., Chester.

Gillman's poems take a novelistic approach to the story of his father's struggle with dementia and relationships with family members and the clashes and eventual acceptance between father and son.

Gillman heads the Theater Department at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts magnet high school in Hartford and is director of Looking In Theatre, a social issue drama group for teenagers. He also writes fiction, non-fiction, plays and children's stories.
