Police have charged a Manchester woman with shoplifting and risk of injury to a minor after they say she went shoplifting at the Gap Kids store at Evergreen Walk and left her two children, ages 1 and 3, locked in her car in the parking lot.

Sharmerra Canty, 26, of 120 Rachel Road, posted $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear Feb. 28 in Superior Court in Manchester.

Police said store security officers had detained Canty. Police then learned her children were in the car. She had not left the engine on to keep the heat running and the outside temperature was 34 degrees, police said. A relative took the children.
