A police standoff that began with the report of a domestic dispute ended when a male suspect took his own life, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to an apartment on Sunnyridge Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Saturday  for a reported domestic dispute.

The suspect’s girlfriend had run to the home of a neighbor where she reported her boyfriend had a handgun and was threatening suicide, police said.

Police setup a perimeter around the home of the suspect and made numerous attempts to contact him without success, police said.

After several hours the suspect took his own life with a handgun outside the apartment, police said.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
