A standoff that spanned more than five hours ended with an armed, drunk man being taken into custody, police said. No one was injured.

Troopers responded to a report of an intoxicated man who had fired a gun inside a home at 98 Fitchville Road about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The man refused to leave the house.

The neighborhood was evacuated, and a state police S.W.A.T. team responded.

The man was taken into custody about 1:40 a.m. Thursday. He was not named in a press release.

The state police continue to investigate.

Courant Staff Writer Christine Dempsey contributed to this report.
